Arrivederci

Leaving is bittersweet

This is one of our many wonderful experiences: visiting Casa di Baal.

Leaving a vacation is always bittersweet.  And so, as we say arrivederci to Italy and we revel in our good times.  We also recall some of the adventures that were not so good and yet we find humor in them.

Our journey started with a rental car gate barrier that wouldn't allow us into Rome.  That should have been an omen for the evil ways of the GPS from hell - the GPS that gave us more wrong directions than right and cost us hours of travel time throughout our stay.  This GPS told us to go left when there were actual signs telling us to go right.  And, although you probably won't believe it, the evil GPS from hell actually continued to speak and give wrong information AFTER Anne turned it off.  Yes, that is correct - it was possessed!  Add to that, in the Monk/Round car, we each got a turn at making the wrong directional decision.  It got to the point where no one wanted to make a decision for fear of being wrong once again and spending hours being lost in Italy.

Even in walking we went up when we should have gone down and stood at the wrong locations for the bus stop.

There was also frustration at not speaking the language and the scary moment on the Metro when Steve yelled "Everybody Out" and Tom got his hand caught in the doors when Anne didn't make it out on time.

There was the toll charge of 89.70 Euro which I must dispute.

There was exhaustion, thirst, and near sunstroke and times when i felt I couldn't walk one step further.  This was true as well when we got to our pasta making class which was 5 flights up and Steve sweated and swore his way to the top.

Despite, the MISadventures I still would do it all over again.  Those times are just part of the whole.  They make the good times even sweeter and they always add to the story being told.

So, arrivederci Italia!  I don't know if I will be back in this lifetime, but you, and this fine vacation with great friends, will remain in my heart forever.

I can't wait to read about the rest of our adventures, especially where you found your relatives. Has it been written and I just can't find it?
