Last day away

Colby enjoys eating some Maryland blue crabs

July 13, 2014

Well, today was our last full day of vacation.  We will be heading back to RI tomorrow afternoon.  It was so hot and sunny that it wasn't possible to just sit around the pool, and since I ddidn't want the kids in front of the TV all day, I opted for a movie.  After breakfast, a walk pushing Magen in the stroller, and looking at the sun through Tom's telescope on the deck (great way to see it), we went to Annapolis to see Maleficent.  Although fantasy isn't necessarily my choice of genre, it was very good and we all enjoyed it immensely.  We then met the Wades at Fisherman's Crab Deck on Kent Island for a late lunch.  It was there that Colby had his first encounter with blue crabs.  It took him some time to finish the half dozen as Uncle Tom taught him to hammer away at the shells.  It brought back memories of childhood and the newspapers put out over the table as everyone hammered, cracked, and suck the crab meat out of tiny crab legs.  Now I remember why I stopped eating them.  It is just too much work for the little you get.  I'd much rather enjoy crab cakes.

During the meal, Magen was up and about.  Katie was able to eat intermittenly between walking the docks and feeding the ducks with Magen.  Madelyn was very helpful and helped Auntie Katie with this task.

I met a very nice local couple who had recently moved into the 55+ community in Centreville.  She was a retired teacher with roots in Ohio and he was born and raised in Rehoboth.  When I said I was from Foster, he mentioned he had traveled through the town on a few occasions.

Once done with our meal (as I said it took a LONG time with Colby enjoying his crabs), we headed back to the Wades.  Steve and I relaxed on the deck, he with a whiskey and I with a pinot grigio, and we watched Madelyn and Colby swim in the pool once last time.

Evening came all too soon and we retired to our rooms.  We will be up very early in the morning to bid farewell to the Wades who will be off for work and daycare at 5:30 am.  Then we will relax, pack, and have a leisurely drive to BWI for our flight home to RI.

Another enjoyable vacation comes to an end. Why can't I just win powerball?  Oh, wait, I guess I will need to buy tickets to make that a possibility.

I can't wait to read about the rest of our adventures, especially where you found your relatives. Has it been written and I just can't find it?
