Steve and Katie enjoy coconut ice cream at the weekend market.
August 5
Today Katie took us to a Thai weekend market. It was huge. There was everything from textiles to antiques to food, candles, and pets. We did a little shopping and then had some fresh coconut ice cream served
in coconuts shells with a coconut juice chaser. Yummy! On our way home we stopped to have lunch. I had pad thai in Thailand! The food here is so fresh and healthy.
The one part of the shopping experience that I
have a difficult time with is bargaining for a price. We are so accustomed to just paying the asking price that it is difficult to haggle. Katie is very good at it. So, she did all the haggling for me – I would have just paid what I
was told. Even when we went on the klong tour a couple of days ago, Tom haggled with the tour guide to get us a better price. That is just so uncomfortable for me, but Steve and I will have to learn because we are planning a side trip by ourselves
to either Chiang Mai or Krabi for next weekend. It should be interesting!
When we got back to the apartment (after shopping) Steve napped inside while I went down to the pool to nap there. I woke up after an hour because a
family with young children ended up sitting next to me and the kids were very loud. So I moved upstairs to finish my nap. The problem is that I didn’t want to get up. Steve came in to wake me for dinner. I told him to just let
me sleep. Katie came in and told me I had to fight the sleepiness and just get up. It seems the jet lag and the time change finally caught up with me. So I fought off the sleepiness, got up, had dinner and watched a little TV (we can only
DVD the Olympics and watch the games a day late). I am now ready to sleep again. Let’s see what happens tomorrow.
