Paragon Cineplex

Today was a day of rest.  I got up late had a leisurely cup of coffee and breakfast, read, and sat by the pool with Katie and Magen.

Then at 2:00 it was time to leave with Steve to go and see a 4D movie in Siam.  Of course, Steve was late and he dilly dallied around until I left the apartment without him.  He quickly caught up with me and we made our way over to the BTS sky train.  I told him I was putting him in charge of getting the tickets.  BIG MISTAKE!  He didn’t have the change so he had to stand in line for that.  Once he had the change he chose the wrong line and got behind a ditsy tourist who didn’t know what she was doing, where she was going, how to use the machine, and then to top it off she was putting the wrong coins in (Oh my, that could have been me 3 weeks ago).  Instead of jumping into another line, Steve stood there and waited which meant we were losing more time.  By the time we made it upstairs to catch the train and got over to Siam we had exactly 5 minutes to enter the Paragon Mall/Cineplex and ride the very slow escalators up to the fifth floor.  That wouldn’t be bad except that it seemed every level was a half floor.  By the time we got to the fifth floor the line for tickets was painfully long.  Oh well, we ended up being 15 minutes late for the movie.  We also missed the Kings’ song at the beginning of the movie when everyone in the theater needs to stand up out of respect.  But, on the positive side we had assigned seating so our center seats were still available.

We had no idea how the movie began, but it didn’t take long to know it wasn’t going to be my cup of tea.  The Bourne Identity was good, but violence, chase scenes (this was an unending chase), and 4D rattling of my brain and back (not to mention blasts of air over my head) would have been enough to make me scream.  For those of you who have never been to a 4D movie, it is like a ride simulator.  The seats move and bump and in this particular movie I was shot it the back a few times.  For some reason all I could do was laugh.

After the movie we caught the sky train over to the MBK.  I think I mentioned this place before.  It is seven stories of never ending shopping.  We were there because Steve wanted to have dinner at the all you can eat sushi bar.  We got to the restaurant and I took one look at the menu and told Steve I wasn’t eating there.  There was nothing on the menu that I  would be interested in.  So I left Steve to wait in line to get into the sushi bar and I went to have a sandwich at Au Bon Pain.  Then I went window shopping for an hour.  I really did want to buy more souvenirs but I wasn’t in the mood to bargain for the best price so I just walked and looked.  Then I returned to pick up Steve.  He made me laugh when I got there.  He said he didn’t enjoy his meal.  He hadn’t realized that after you choose your fish from the rotating bar you are supposed to cook it in the pan in front of you.  So the first piece of fish he got he popped into his mouth raw.  He felt the waitress tap him on the shoulder and she  said “No, No.  You need to cook.”  So Steve was left to wonder how good the raw fish was and how long it had been sitting on the rotating bar.  He quickly spit it out.  He did manage to cook the rest of his food in the broth in front of him, but he said the whole dinner experience wasn’t what he was looking for.  I am glad I settled for Au Bon Pain.

The train ride back to Phrong Phom (the closet stop to the apartment) was like being in a sardine can.  You can’t get claustrophobic and ride the trains in Bangkok.  Sometimes it is so tight that you don’t even have to hold on – there is no way you would even fall over.

We arrived back to the apartment in time to watch Magen before she was put into bed for the night.  The TV streaming was slow and intermittent so we all went off to read and sleep.

I can't wait to read about the rest of our adventures, especially where you found your relatives. Has it been written and I just can't find it?
